VICS Climate Change and your Health Tree Planting Events with EAST at Smith Bay Park

Download the pdf story by the St. Thomas Source

EAST recently had our volunteers with the help of St Thomas Historical Trust, Rotarian's, Environmental Rangers and We Grow Food Inc. help  clearing of grass around future  planting locations for landscaping at Creque Marine Railway and clean up of the surrounding areas. We met  at 8:30 a.m. at the French town dock and had Sea Tow take us to the island for the clean up We removed at least 20 bags of marine debrie and trash that day. Refreshments, water, ice and trash removal gloves were provided by Premier Wines and Spirits and Lesley Comissiong. After the event we were taught about the history of the island and what the trust is planning in the future by Charles Consolvo.

To assist us with our appeal we successfully identified and negotiated pro-bono legal representation from local counsel Attorney Karin Bentz (Law Offices of Karin Bentz), the nationally-recognized environmental advocacy organization, Earth Justice; former EAST Executive Director & attorney Katherine Harsch-Kinsman, and Attorney Andrew Torrance, Harvard Law professor and attorney for the Boston office of the national law firm Fish & Richardson, P.C. A press release detailing EAST's concerns and issues for appeal of the Botany Bay development can be found at the Earth Justice News Room.

recycleHey you!

Excuse me but do you see what you are doing to our beautiful islands with your littering?! It takes ALL of us to place trash in its proper place. Please do your part to protect our home and tell others to join you. It takes the VI Government and many, many self less volunteers such as the members of your family, friends, neighbors, class mates and co workers to help out in our war against litter.  (Emphasis on who does the clean ups)
But we need you to make our islands a cleaner place.

If you see someone littering ask them to dispose of it properly, better yet if you can, take a cell phone picture of the event and report it to the VIWMA office on St. Thomas and St. John at 776-4844 Ext. 292 or on St. Croix the hotline number is 713-1962.
